Our Master's degree program is designed to provide students with an advanced understanding of the key concepts, 理论, and substantive findings of contemporary 政治 science. The Master of Arts program provides graduate students with an advanced understanding of the main subfields in the discipline of 政治 science, ensuring mastery of established 理论 and findings, and the ability to analyze current challenges and controversies. Graduates will be trained to engage in theoretically-based and methodologically-sound academic research, to be thoughtful contributors to 政治 debates and policy discussions, and to transmit their knowledge to others via teaching, 写作, 和奖学金.

Earning a master's degree in 政治 science opens a wide array of opportunities. Many of our graduates find a place in education, teaching in community colleges, 高中, or other educational institutions. Some find employment with 政府 agencies at the national, 状态, 当地的, 以及国际层面. Others develop careers in the world of campaigns, 选举, 还有政党, or such non-政府al organizations as interest groups, 研究公司, 智库, 和非营利组织. Political journalism and commentary on the internet or via traditional media is another choice. The MA degree also provides a foundation for pursuing professional degrees in such areas as law or business, or doctoral studies in 政治 science or a related field.

  • A core of six courses (a total of 18 units):

  • 一个浓度, chosen from American Politics, 政治理论, 或全球政治, which consists of an additional four elective courses (a total of 12 units).
     
  • A comprehensive exam or a thesis. A thesis is subject to the approval of the thesis chair, 硕士研究生导师, 以及系主任. 学生 who are approved to write an MA thesis may, with the approval of the MA advisor, 用3.0 thesis units for one concentration course.
